WORLD BOOK DAY 2011

We have been learning about The Great Famine in recent months and as part of our studies Mrs. O'Dea read the novel "Under The Hwathorn Tree" by Marita Conlon McKenna. We all enjoyed the story which brought the facts of the famine into a very human setting. We followed the journey of three young children who had to leave their home, having been left by their parents, and they encounter many difficulties and horrifying sights as they made their way to their great aunts' home in Castletaggart.
On World Book Day our teacher announced a competition where we had to set about designing a new book cover for "Under The Hawthorn Tree". There was to be a winner in each of the classes from 3rd to 6th. We hope you like the prizewinning designs!

Music and Drama are very popular subjects in our classroom.
We have all been learning to play the tin-whistle since 1st class and Mrs. O'Dea teaches us lots of tunes. We play in school concerts and on special occasions in Dromkeen church. Many of our class learn other instruments and bring them along as well.
We also love to sing and have a school choir which takes part in the Community Games competition every year as well as singing at masses and at various school functions. Some of us also sing solo and in Group singing competitions.Just across the road from our school is "An Teach Drámaíochta" and we go over each week for our drama lesson.
