Science is a great favourite among the 38 pupils in the school and participation in the DPS programme ensures that there is always plenty of activity and lots of experimental work being carried out. Pupils and staff of Cloverfield NS were delighted to be again presented with a Discover Primary Science award of excellence for the 2007/08 school year. The school first received the award in June 2006. Principal Noreen O'Dea and four of the pupils went along to the award ceremony at the Clarion Hotel, Limerick in June. All pupils in the school were presented with certificates for their participation and achievement.

We hosted a Science Exhibition in our two classrooms and parents and siblings came along to visit. Pupils explained how various models had been made and why certain things happen. All were proud of their exhibits and gladly talked about them to the visitors. The exhibition was a great success and a report of the day formed part of our Discovery Log.

We made some paper helicopters and tested them in the classroom. We observed them as they spun to the ground and tested both small and large helicopters. We also made some from different types of card and paper and let them fall from different heights.
We worked in pairs to discover our "blind spots". It was fun and a bit eerie when the black dot seemed to disappear for an instant.
